Endothelial cells in the angiogenic vessels within solid tumors express several proteins that are absent or barely detectable in established blood vessels. CX5C library was screened in mice carrying human MDA-MB-435 breast carcinoma xenografts. The motif GSL and its permutations were frequently recovered from screenings using breast carcinoma, Kaposi's sarcoma, and malignant melanoma, and homing of the phage was inhibited by the cognate peptide.
