Brief Description:

In fact, phages were infused via the heart. The major advantage compared to direct infusion into the brain is that the phage have to travel some distance before they reach the brain. On their way, they already encounter endothelial cells: the endothelium of the aorta and carotid arteries. Phage with affinity to ubiquitous endothelial receptors are given the opportunity to bind to these cells and will not reach the brain. This negative selection filters out unspecific binders and allows for the identification of peptides that bind more specifically to brain endothelium.
