Twenty seven single phage clones from the fourth-round elution were randomly picked out. Multiple sequence alignment analyses using CLUSTALW indicated that peptides 1 (FLPFWYNVFDSLSGN), 3 (FSAWLYSVFDQFSPA), 10 (GSSFFYDVCSMWSLC), 19 (CFYDVASAIWASLSA), and 24 (ACFVDPSCWWSLLAR) shared homology. Among them, the peptide sequence VFDSLL, a partially homologous sequence, was found. Then a single protein that includes the VFDSLL sequence, claudin-1 (CLDN1), was identified in the NCBI database by using BLAST. CLDN1 is highly expressed in the liver and plays an important role during the post cell binding process of HCV entry.
