    Description:Cobalt ion(2+) was chosen as the target for phage selection. Biopanning was carried out on planar solegel surfaces. Sol-gels with cation exchange properties were fabricated using Dispex N40, polyacrylic acid or polystyrene sulfonate. Selection pressure for peptide identification was achieved using lowered pH values over the biopanning rounds. In Table 2 all identified peptide sequences as well as their frequencies are shown. The theoretical pI of the peptide, calculated with Expasy ProtParam and the general amino acid composition are shown because the net charge of the peptide and properties of amino acid side chains have a high impact on the binding behavior. In the biopanning experiments that were performed in order to identify cobalt ion(2+)-binding peptides, 63 colonies were examined for their peptide sequence. 28 unique sequences were identified, where of 22 sequences occurred only once. The peptides sequence occurred one time.
